Two Short Plays

"Under Control" and "Underneath the Lintel"

Event Flyer

In the darkly comic Under Control, an uptight brother and sister join their free-spirited stepmother in Florida for the scattering of their father’s ashes, each determined, in their own way, to get it done right. 2023 AACT Award winners Jovon Serrano and Christy Miceli play the mother and sister.

In Underneath the Lintel, the sole character—the Librarian—embarks on a quest to find out who anonymously returned a library book that is 113 years overdue. A clue scribbled in the margin of the book and an unclaimed dry-cleaning ticket take him on a mysterious adventure that spans the globe and the ages. The Librarian is played by 2023 AACT Award winner Robb Bessey.

Two excellent plays put on by the talented cast of actors and directors.I think they have an excellent chance to win at the AACT Fest. It's always a wonderful experience to come to KMP plays and be transported to the world the actors are creating.I've seen same actors appear in different shows and each time they take on the persona of the new character they are playing.I love the selection of plays as they present plays I am not familiar with and enjoy finding new experiences

Loved the first play. Second one was difficult to follow. The actor was great. Script confusing.

We loved Under Control! Definitely 5 stars! We felt that Under the Lintel was a little deep. Probably would give that one 3 stars!

The playhouse has wonderful performances and is a joy to attend. Under Control took me a few minutes to package/perceive the play but I think it is/was brilliant. The second play was really good--the acting was amazing and Rob Bessey is always a joy to watch. However, the play itself just was just too long. Perhaps cutting some of the prose from this performance would be useful to keep the audience engaged.

How did you like the event?

"Under Control" was very well done. "Under the Lintel" we did not like the subject matter. Play was too long for a monologue. Hard to hear from balcony. Very hard to follow.

How did you like the event?

The first play was pretty good, laughter, serious subject and good actors. The second play was too long for starters and probably that's the complaint i have that made it boring before it was over. Kudos to the actor who did all the memorizing! An awesome undertaking and delivery.

Wow!!!! Just wow! Can’t remember a better afternoon at the theater. The two performances were spectacular ! The planned entry into the AACT competition Under Control by Elinor Jones is sure to be an award winner. Robb Bessey in Under The Lintel mesmerized me. Robb truly brought his character to life! I’m so happy to be a season ticket holder.

How did you like the event?

Both shows were fantastic! There was an emotional connection in the first play. The actors carried that feeling throughout. I was so very impressed with Rob Bessey’s performance. To talk for an hour straight while delivering his speech… just wow! Well done 👏👏

How did you like the event?

T he first play was good but under the Lintel not so much. I give Rob credit for having to learn so many lines but it was way too long and hard for me to follow. Hence only 2 stars this time.
