These two organizations are coming together in a performance of Igor Stravinsky’s extraordinary The Soldier’s Tale. This unusual show, in which actors, dancers and musicians share the stage, tells the tale of a soldier who trades his violin to the devil. It’s coming to the KMP stage for one weekend, three performances only on January 31st and February 1st..

This event is not part of the season ticket package and the tickets will be flying out!!

I really enjoyed this performance. The actors, the dancers, and the musicians all performed there parts superbly.

How did you like the event?

Great musicians, v good actors. This kind of performance for a 1908 production might have been great for a Sunday afternoon in that era. It really fell flat for me in 2026.

How did you like the event?

Outstanding! Very intricate performance that was extra difficult to perform in a smaller venue and the cast and orchestra did it with perfection! I never stop being impressed by everyone involved at Kettle Moraine Playhouse!

How did you like the event?

KMP's intimate space was a perfect venue for "The Soldier's Tale" and the performance was riveting. Cheers to the actors and Kettle Moraine Symphony musicians who ably and energetically performed this difficult piece.

How did you like the event?

The musicians were extraordinary. Loved the music. I felt the story line was a bit muddled, but especially enjoyed the performance of the devil!! Well done!

How did you like the event?

We loved the Soldier's Tale. Having a blend of 7 extremely talented Kettle Moraine Symphony players, along with Director Hynson, 3 actors, and 1 dancer, was a unique experience, and I'd love to see more performances like it. Thanks!

How did you like the event?

We appreciated the unique experience. Both my husband and I knew the March section of the music, as we had to conduct that part for a conducting exam while working through our Music Education degrees at UW-Whitewater about 50 years ago, and play the music when not conducting. But, we knew nothing about the story behind the writing of it or the story of the play, or at least we didn't remember it. We enjoyed the actors, dancer, and thought that the ensemble was fabulous.

I wasn’t comfortable attending given the plumbing situation. I was certainly looking forward to seeing this.

How did you like the event?

Acting, dancing and especially the music were first-rate. Congratulations to KMP for their first collaboration with the KMSO - giving a performance of a piece so rare that it has taken me 40 years to get a chance to hear it (despite having lived in NY and the UK.) And additional kudos for drawing nearly full houses to a piece that I imagine few people know anything about (it's not "Mamma Mia!" :)
