Hope Island Jazz and Cabaret presents "Hot Jazz" with THE GYPSY CATS.

The Gypsy Cats have been delighting audiences since 2016, performing at The Brisbane City Hall, Woodford, Island Vibe, Yonder, Brisbane Festival and OzManouche Festival. Their live shows have grown increasingly popular amongst the local Balboa and Lindy Hop dancing community, and their pre-covid residency, the 'Gypsy Jam’ was renowned for featuring guest appearances by the finest musicians in the scene. With their own take on the manouche genre and a distinctive sound, the Gypsy Cats have built an eclectic repertoire of originals and standards, up-tempo swing, gypsy bossa, traditional jazz ballads and french waltz.

 We absolutely loved the Gypsy Cats! Their performance, energy and enthusiasm made for a perfect night! The venue and staff were also perfect for this type of event. Hopefully the Gypsy Cats will make a return appearance to the Gold Coast soon!

How did you like the event?

   Exquisite musicianship spoilt a little in the first session by some ignorant background chatter but that really didn't spoil the night. Your appeal to the audience for the second session really worked. We just need to get the bar and waiter staff on board now! As an ex-trumpet player, I am in awe of Roberto, but the lead guitarist was the technically brilliant star ( although his volume could have been a little higher to balance the rhythm guitarist.)

How did you like the event?

   Disappointed. Paid more money for higher seats and was assured interrupted view. But, could only see part of band side on. Was shoved up back near corner of bar. Food was nice enough though. Wasn't familiar with band. And wasn't impressed with man in hat who announced band would walk out if people kept talking.Several people, including ourselves left before music finished. 🎶

  The Gypsy Cats were brilliant! Food and service - brilliant. Downfall was what was mentioned above. It is a great venue and congratulations on doing what you are doing. Your passion is evident and it is so good to see venues do what you do. Feedback above is done as a way of suggesting improvements so there is no need to remind people to be 'behave' because they rivetted and entertained from the start.
