A Founding Father, a Victorian novelist and a Russian revolutionary walk into a…stop me if you’ve heard this one. Thomas Jefferson (yes that one), Charles Dickens (the very same) and Count Leo Tolstoy (who else?) are brought together in a blistering battle of wits. From Scott Carter (executive producer of Real Time with Bill Maher), this whip-smart comedy examines what happens when great men of history are forced to repeat it.

The Gospel According to Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickens and Count Leo Tolstoy: Discord by Scott Carter. Directed by Gus Sanchez

Brilliant! Clever use of historic background and actual words of the three characters. The acting was from the heart: we sat in the front row, and Jefferson was actually crying when his past was displayed.

How did you like the event?

Amazing script and acting by all three with special kudos to the portrayal of Charles Dickens. One negative comment - the banner hanging with “discord” from the Psalms in the Bible - can’t find it in the Psalms . . . pretty sure it’s from the Bible book of Proverbs🤔

How did you like the event?

A three-person dialogue-weighted play with excellent framing set and lighting. Some of the philosophical arguments and differences among Dickens, Jefferson, and Tolstoy were artifacts of their eras and religious beliefs while their personality differences were what really gave the play it bounce. Their "confessions" prevented their yeasty self-opinions from floating up to the realm of the gods. Good stamina and focus on the part of each of the three actors.

How did you like the event?

This was a real Tour de Force. “Discourse” was an actors’ play – no colors, no activities, no interruptions, only three chairs and a desk with a drawer - just talk, and a very good script. The actors enveloped their characters. They fed off each other throughout the play, increasing each other’s abilities. You could feel that exhilaration as the play progressed. Everything came together on Sunday afternoon to give the audience a once in a lifetime experien
