Sweet Thunder is a 13 piece jazz orchestra based on the Gold Coast. The band plays a mix of big band jazz arranged specifically for the lineup of three trumpets, three trombones, four saxes plus piano, bass and drums. While the band draws heavily on the Duke Ellington/Billy Strayhorn legacy they also play works by Benny Carter, Gerry Mulligan, Count Basie, Quincy Jones, John Clayton and others. The band's name comes from a classic Ellington/Strayhorn album called 'Such Sweet Thunder' - the recording of their so-called Shakespearean Suite.

How did you like the event?

Outstanding night. We had another couple there with us who were not jazz aficionados - and they loved it as well. Great work Ian in booking this act. THe stage was a squeeze for the 12 performers - but it was SO good.
