Picasso at the Lapin Agile

Event Flyer

This long-running Off Broadway absurdist comedy places Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a Parisian cafe in 1904. In his first comedy for the stage, the popular actor and screenwriter plays fast and loose with fact, fame, and fortune as these two geniuses muse on the century’s achievements and prospects, as well as other fanciful topics, with infectious dizziness. Bystanders, including Picasso’s agent, the bartender and his mistress, Picasso’s date, an elderly philosopher, Charles Dabernow Schmendiman, and an idiot inventor introduce additional flourishes of humor. The final surprise patron to join the merriment at the Lapin Agile is a charismatic dark-haired singer, time-warped in from a later era.

Loved this. The story line, while not factual, was really creative. I enjoyed this immensely.

Some of the content and innuendos are seeming to lean toward an agenda and to numb audience. Should keep in mind supports are a bit older and may not appreciate the sexual or other things seeded throughout several of the performance.

How did you like the event?

Unfortunately, I did not care for this performance at all. I had a hard time hearing most of the actors, so missed many of the laughter moments. Found it difficult to follow too. Just didn't seem to flow. Very disappointed.

How did you like the event?

The play itself was entertaining and moved right along. Good seasoned actors who portrayed their characters well. The best part was “Elvis”. Adam Medina was outstanding in this role and stole the show!

How did you like the event?

First, 'not a fan of Steve Martin's humor. Wife is. But interesting nonetheless. The problem for me was understanding the dialogue with the required character accents. That's probably just me, sitting in the balcony. Is that why Gaston was my "favorite"? All the players were excellent. 'Wish I had read the script first for better clarity.

Amazing production from the crew to the actors. The play was sensational and hysterically funny. Loved the entire show from start to finish. Bravo!!

How did you like the event?

This play was the worst waste of time. Most plays I at least enjoy somewhat. All the acting was great, but the play itself was idiotic!!

This play was fun, the actors were great. They seemed to really be enjoying the play themselves! I could really sense the humor of Steve Martin. Well played - a very enjoyable afternoon event!

We had a great time, and even got to drive through the beauty of the Kettle Moraine area during autumn as the leaves are starting to turn. We will be seeing more shows!

How did you like the event?

It was not the best play I've seen, especially cause I could not "see" much of it. The girl who had affair with Picasso, ( i forget her name) had the strange accent, some lines were hard to understand I couldn't understand what she said. But overall the acting was good, they did a good job. Just bad stage setting.

I thoroughly enjoyed the show, and thought Robb Bessey was channeling Steve Martin in his performance of Gaston. We also enjoyed the performances of Eric Starr, Stephani Crawford, Tatiana Linair, and Adam Raul Medina. Well done!

How did you like the event?

I was thrilled to see the talent in the area. We attended opening weekend and I felt all of the actors had really deeply developed their characters. Steve Martin is a fantastic comedy writer, but a well written book still needs to be brought to life on the stage, and this cast did just that. Credit should be given to Josh Scheibe for his direction. Thanks for putting together a very well timed, funny show.
