Move Over Mrs Markham

Four Night Shows: 17, 18 Jan; 7, 8 Feb 2025

Event Flyer

Philip Markham, a publisher of children's books, is asked by his business partner, Henry Lodge, if he can borrow the flat for the evening to gallivant with his latest girlfriend. As Philip and his wife will be out, he reluctantly agrees.

At the same time, Joanna Markham is being persuaded by Linda Lodge to let her borrow the empty flat, in order to entertain her lover. With some misgivings, Joanna agrees.

What nobody knows is that the interior designer who has been decorating the flat for the past three months has decided that this is the night that he and the au pair girl will try out the new oval bed. When the Markham's night out is cancelled, it is too late to let any of the parties know and three sets of hopeful lovers all converge on the bedroom at the same time.

The situation is further complicated by the arrival of Olive and Harriett Smythe, staightlaced authors of children's books. The frantic efforts of the Markhams to hide the amorous goings-on and, at the same time sign up the Smythes, leads to a hectic and hilarious evening.

How did you like the event?

Love the table seating, being able to sit with friends and have a nibble and a drink while watching the show. Hilarious play, fabulous actors learning all those lines. Thoroughly recommend seeing Red Door Theatre productions.

How did you like the event?

A very intricate plot handled well by the actors - good direction and background support by the crew. Great set that allowed for a few settings on stage and I liked the 'retro' ambiance. I enjoyed all the roles, particularly Mrs Markham who seemed to be the central figure - impressive. Male actors also amusing from sleazy to flamboyant. My first but not my last visit, looking forward to the next show.

How did you like the event?

Well done by the entire cast and crew. Farce is always a challenge and to pull it off requires skill and practice. You did it.

How did you like the event?

Great costumes and set, enthusiastic cast. Maybe for future productions or like plays could edit for length and update script to be less offensive to LGBTQI community, and the Smyth sisters roles were too dated. Otherwise well done, really thought Phillip was very convincing.

How did you like the event?

While we were very impressed with the skill and hard work of the cast and crew we didn’t like the play itself, very dated humour.
