Johnny and the Devil's Box in Concert

Event Flyer

Join us for a concert performance of the award winning new musical JOHNNY & THE DEVIL'S BOX, written by Franklin local Douglas Waterbury-Tieman. The show made its sold out world premiere run at the Cumberland County Playhouse last fall to enthusiastic audiences calling it, “A godsend, a jamboree jubilee.” (CROSSVILLE CHRONICLE).

Johnny Baker believes he is the best fiddler that’s ever lived, and he aims to prove it. But his boasting attracts the attention of another fiddler- the devil himself- who shows up with a plan for Johnny’s destruction. With fame and fortune tempting his pride at every turn, Johnny must find the strength and wisdom to win a battle of the bows without losing sight of what really matters; family, community, and even a budding romance. Be transported from your seat to the Grand Ole Opry to the Ryman to the hills of Georgia and back to Nashville as the cast of the award-winning musical JOHNNY & the DEVIL’S BOX brings you the toe tapping, hand clapping, heartfelt concert edition of this jubilant new musical.

JOHNNY & the DEVIL’S BOX is a celebration of love, life and music that the world needs right now!

Very talented group and enjoyed the evening! Would liked to have seen the actual “play” instead of an “overview” of the story. Perhaps a separate narrator would have painted the storyline better. Understand venue may have been too small for the play…

How did you like the event?

Not close to what I had thought it would be. Vocals were ear throbbing; some times even painful. The least entertaining of all the performances/shows/musicals we've seen at WCPAC. Left at intermission.

How did you like the event?

Was looking forward to the show since I love bluegrass and it had received such glowing reviews from the premier at The Cumberland County Playhouse. I must admit I was a little disappointed. The show was disjointed and didn’t flow well due to it not being the full theatrical performance. With that being said, the creator of the show was fabulous both as a musician and vocalist and lyricist. The original songs were amazing. The lady who sang “Whipporwill” was awesome!

How did you like the event?

The advertising was not clear. I thought I was buying tickets to a musical. So did the strangers next to me (I asked) plus some ladies in the restroom. I was disappointed. Also, rather than a typical theater experience where they ask everyone to put their phones away, the entertainer asked people to film and to post with certain tags on social media. People weren't asked to at least not use flashes, so there were lights interrupting the performance. Disappointing all around.

How did you like the event?

I thought we were going to be watching the musical and not just hearing the music with a narration. But I really enjoyed the evening. We also attended School of Rock, which I give five stars! It was a great performance and the kids were so talented. Loved the music too!

How did you like the event?

We were anticipating a Bluegrass concert, not an abridged play. We were disappointed in the performances having been spoiled by seeing really great Bluegrass artists through the years.
