What unfolded over seventy years ago now echoes disturbingly in our present day: a society manipulated by fear, emotions weaponized, old hatreds reignited. It was a time when the worst instincts were rewarded, and the best were silenced. 

This is also an intimate family story—a poignant look at the bond between mother and daughter under the unimaginable strain of war. It is a story of antisemitism, of fascism, and of the communist dictatorship that followed.
