Dracula

Event Flyer

Steven Dietz breathes new life into Bram Stoker's legendary tale, trading campy tropes for a visceral, wickedly smart exploration of horror and desire. As a dark power descends upon London, a group of unlikely heroes, led by the obsessive Van Helsing, must race again time to stop a master of the night who is both debonair and violent. Rich with both humor and horror, this is a Dracula that is heartbreaking, heart-pounding and truly haunting.

By Steven Dietz | Adapted from the novel by Bram Stoker | Directed for LCCT by Jason Wyatt

Actors were fine, some of the dialogue hard to understand. Intermission everyone was confused as it wasn't in the pamphlet. Had to leave half way through Dracula because half the audience was hacking their lungs out. Can't be sure if the audience was sick and couldn't have the foresight to stay home or they needed to turn down the fog machines in the tiny closed in theater. Negative experience, wish the actors better luck.

One of the biggest things about this play was the full range of emotions that ALL the characters exhibited. As an audience member, I gasped when I started experiencing them and I haven’t really ever seen something like that. That’s what really got me hooked from the beginning since it made me really immerse in the play. The props were very meticulously done and you can tell right away that they care about giving scenery. 10/10 LCCT Ateeeee!

An amazing, highly entertaining night out with my sons seeing Dracula at LCCT. The cast was spectacular and truly poured their hearts into every spooky, charming moment! ❤️👏 (Renfield stole the show and our hearts)

Probably the best small production I have seen. The acting was incredible, tons of emotion and chills. The castle set was way better than I expected and the technical aspect of the mood lighting and fog was advanced! The cast and crew did a phenomenal job.

My sister traveled from ABQ with her eldest son to see Dracula. It was my nephews first time going to the theater and he loved every moment of it. He particularly enjoyed Renfield and Count Dracula. Everyone did such a fantastic performance. Thank you for sharing your talent with Las Cruces!

The set was amazing, and the actors were wonderful. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that sometimes when characters were screaming I couldn't understand them. It was the most unusual verson of the Dracula story I've ever seen. Well done to all!

What a great production. Congratulations and thanks to all participants on and off stage. It was so well coordinated. For me, it was wonderful to be able to hear all the words with the new sound system. I was thrilled as it was a first for me in a long time. THANK YOU!

The set was spectacular! The acting was even better! Very dedicated effects team, and the theater itself was the perfect atmosphere for Dracula! 10/10 Kudos to the cast for such clear speaking, clean scene switches, and excellent artistry.

Pluses: fantastic sets; great acting. Minuses: I'm so confused. Was this trying to be camp? Serious horror? The director introduced it as having a political message. What message was intended? One disturbing take is that Christianity is the key to vanquishing our foes. Casting a (presumed) trans actor as the villain made that read even more uncomfortable, given the current political climate. At points I felt like I'd wandered into a weird evangelical Christian morality tale.

Bravo! This rendition for Dracula was incredibly fun. The entire cast was spectacular, but I want to take the opportunity to applaud Emily (Renfield) and Niko (Dracula) for their stunning work. Renfield was delightfully unhinged, and Dracula was portrayed in such a hungry, alluring, monstrous way that I was mesmerized. The perfect spooky Halloween play.

Overall we enjoyed the play with some caveats: 1) it seemed about 20 minutes too long. Praise to the actors playing: Dracula, Renfield and the 2 doctors. "Jonathan" = very hard to understand, needs to brush up on his enunciation. We believe Dracula (the play and actor) would have benefitted from being less Nosferatu and more suave gentleman. Cold air blowing on our backs did not help either. We liked most aspects of the play with some (in our estimation) drawbacks.

The play seemed a little chaotic at times, but with all the scene changes I can understand that. My wife felt like the screaming was a little to the excess, but overall; we liked it!

The play was very well done. The actors were on point. I loved the crazy dude in the Asylum. The scenery was magnificent. I did know the story from a movie made in the 90s with Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder and Gary Oldman as Dracula and I really felt transformed back to my youth with this play. Thank you.

The acting was truly excellent. The set, especially that castle, was astonishingly perfect. The costumes were amazing - appropriate for the period being portrayed, varied in detail and professional looking. But the story line..... did not appeal to me. I'm sure the novel appealed more to the readers of the period when it was written & published. And clearly many in the audience loved it. But I didn't. I'm looking forward to your December offering.

The performances by Renfield and Dracula were particularly compelling, and I appreciated that casting was not constrained by the traditional gender of these characters. Both actors brought considerable presence to their roles. The dialogue delivered by Van Helsing and Dr. Seward was especially clear and easy to follow. In contrast, during scenes when actors raised their voices to convey urgency or chaos, much of the dialogue became difficult to understand.

This was another great show in a very different vein. This was a rather intense and well acted play. A bit of blood but not excessive. Dracula was very believable. Renfield, supposedly in their first role, was also great.

Four of us attended together. We were very disappointed. We found the production to be long, very slow with pauses between speeches too long, rather boring. A couple of the actors spoke very loudly but in ways that were obviously straining their voices. It would have been more entertaining as a musical comedy. We were especially surprised because the production of Come from Away was one of the most outstanding we have ever seen among many good ones at the theater.

Dracula: Casting, script, special effects, makeup, set design, full use of the stage--all this set the bar higher for what I have come to expect from community theater. I should have reserved a seat further back, to prevent the Wimbledon effect, to take a better view of the entire stage. Kudos all--cast, crew, and director!

This isn't the type of "story" I like, but this one was well done. The set was awesome as well as all of the technical aspects. There were also a number of very good actors who were perfect in their roles. Specifically, I want to mention "Renfield", "Van Helsing", and Niko as "Dracula". They stood out. However, I won't give it 5 stars because there was too much of dialogue that could NOT BE HEARD. This is a common problem and one that I hope

This was our 3rd attendance to a play at LCCT. We brought our son who unfortunately did not enjoy the play. However, we felt the acting was very good and the set was excellent. Great work! It was our least favorite to date and since we both enjoy music so much, we believe that we prefer a play that has more music. We have season passes so are looking forward to the upcoming plays in December and April.

The quality of this show far exceeds what one would expect from a small community theater. I thoroughly enjoyed this show and was very impressed with the staging and the acting of Emily Caldwell (Renfield) & Niko Goyaale (Dracula). Much thanks to everyone involved with this production and for all the time spent to deliver such a high-quality show! Also, I had no problem hearing/understanding the actors.

It was a wonderful show however I was on the 3rd row center section and on numerous occasions I couldn’t hear what the actors were saying. More precisely it was Dracula whenever he was up on the stairs of the castle. And once when Renfield was talking at corner of stage. I guess there are no “mics”. I can only imagine what the people in the back of the auditorium was going thru. Maybe if you just only mic’d up Dracula with a small mic pack. Audio is only reason it’

Could not hear most of the dialog. The actors had good rapport between them, but it was as tho they were having private conversations. The accents and speed of speaking also contributed to lack of understanding. Otherwise, good show. And acting was great. I especially liked Emily as Renfield.

I love LCCT and wholly support community theater which is why it pains me to leave this review. I didn't connect with the story, but more than that, neither I nor those that I was with could hear the majority of the actors. If they were wearing mics then the volume needs to be increased. It is very frustrating and distracting not to be able to hear. We are season ticket holders and look forward to the rest of the season. Fingers crossed the audio will improve.

The acting was exceptional - difficult dialogue handled extremely well. I can't remember that last time I saw a cast work this hard and the subject required hard work. I only gave 4 stars due to the topic and not the execution. The play is long - the topic demanding and the subject matter stressing. Life is hard - we prefer escape rather than confrontation and that is a sad fact of the world we live in. We are glad you tackle some tough ones but it was hard.
