Doug Canney – The Human Energy Drink of Comedy

Doug is a nationally and internationally touring headliner, voice-over actor, and TV actor with a past life as a touring 80’s musician. His comedy journey began in 2005 while still traveling with a band, cracking jokes between popped breakers, drummer asthma attacks, and chaotic after-show parties. After sobering up (and another divorce), Doug leaned into writing jokes—the worst jokes ever, by his own admission—but stuck with it, grinding his way through Tribblerun Comedy Tours starting in 2011 and never looking back.

Since then, he’s logged over 9,800 miles in a single week on the road and performed more than 330 nights in one year. His high-energy, spastic stage presence has earned him the nickname “The Human Energy Drink” from fellow comics, with audiences often remarking, “his face KILLS me, his eyebrows are crazy!”

Doug honed his craft as a house comic at the legendary Coconuts Comedy Club in St. Pete Beach, Florida, under the mentorship of Bob Shoemaker—the same stage that shaped Billy Gardell, Mitch Hedberg, Larry the Cable Guy, and Jim Breuer.

He’s been seen on HBO, NBC, and the WB Channel, with extra appearances on One Tree Hill, Eastbound & Down, and Dawson’s Creek, plus a handful of indie films to pad his IMDb page. With a fearless style shaped by years on the road and a rock ‘n’ roll edge, Doug brings a one-of-a-kind comedic punch that keeps audiences coming back for more.

👉 Come see him live at Gnarly’s, August 29th & 30th at 8 PM!
