Essential Drum Rudiments with Dorothea Taylor

They are the building blocks to every drum beat, pattern, fill, and solo. Whatever your skill level is on the drums, practicing your rudiments is a must. Dorothea will teach us several drum rudiments in a fun and interactive one-hour workshop.

About Dorothea Taylor

I started my music appreciation by taking piano lessons for 6 years. By the time I was 13 I knew that I was born to play the drums and so I joined our local Drum and Bugle Corps. This was where I received all of my rudimental training and practice discipline. I marched with them for 6 years.  By the time I graduated from high school I was ready to get in my first band. I was asked to play in a dance band that played Polkas and  Waltzes and we played 5 nights a week!

Since then I have played a variety of different music in many different bands including....Dixieland, Jazz, Blues, Broadway Musicals, Symphonic, Church Contatas and Classic Rock.   I have been teaching and working with school drum lines for the last 37 years and continue to give private lessons as well.  This past year I started doing virtual drum lessons to students from all over the country including some students from other parts of the world.

I am currently working as a Drumeo Coach that has been live at noon every Tuesday that reaches students from all over the world as well.  After having a viral video ‘Down With The Sickness’ recorded at the Drumeo Headquarters, it has really increased my social media and given me many opportunities like being on the new Nick Cannon show playing a drum-off with him. I am also a church organist for the past 40 years, I play congas, cajon, bongos, djembe, ukulele, and guitar. In other words, I love music.
