Don Pasquale

Event Flyer

Relationships and marriage take work in the best of situations, but in Don Pasquale's case, and when the marriage is out of spite, it could prove to be a bit much for the old man. In an attempt to eliminate his nephew from his will, the rich old man decides to get married. He refuses to allow Ernesto (the nephew) to marry his lover Norina, and hopes to leave Ernesto penniless. Little does he know that the person he enlists to help him find a bride is Malatesta, a friend to both Ernesto and Norina. When Malatesta suggests his "sister" as a potential bride, Pasquale is overjoyed. However, the sweet, demure, "Sofronia" (who is Norina in desguise) is only sweet and demure until the marriage contract (and thus the inheritance, and half of all of his belongings, immediately) is signed over to her. She immediately turns into a vicious shrew, in hopes of causing a divorce, and living out the rest of her days with Ernesto, on Don Pasquale's dime. Hijinks obviously ensue, in a hillarious romp. Set in an italian restaurant in New York, Joshua Collier directs Nicholas Tocci's concept as Vermont's favorite baritone is jumping in to sing the title role! This production is complete with all stereotypes, parmesean cheese shakers, checkered tablecloths, and all that one could ask for, and will surely be a gut-busting and romantic night at the theatre.

How did you like the event?

It was our first time at Barn Opera. We thought the venue was pure Vermont - rustic, comfortable, intimate and fun. The performances were outstanding and the voices, in particular, were wonderful. It was also great that the performers, director et al seemed to be having as much fun as the audience. We'll be back! As an aside, our son (Jake Lacy, Drama '08) attended NCSA at roughly the same time as Josh Collier - what a wonderful training ground for performance artists!

How did you like the event?

This is in many ways what Comic Opera (Opera buffa) is supposed to be: a spoof. This was right on! May I suggest you do at some point, maybe also as part of a double-billing: "La Serva Padrona" another laugh-out-loud spoof chamber opera? Thank you, Josh, for what you do for our community.

How did you like the event?

What an excellent, fun performance by a thoroughly professional group of artists. Barn Opera makes the art form accessible in a way that was totally unexpected. There is hope for the future knowing these young performers are only just beginning.
