Brighton Beach Memoirs

(March 08-17, 2024)

Event Flyer

Here is part one of Neil Simon's autobiographical trilogy: a portrait of the writer as a young teen in 1937 living with his family in a crowded, lower middle-class Brooklyn walk-up. Eugene Jerome, standing in for the author, is the narrator and central character. Dreaming of baseball and girls, Eugene must cope with the mundane existence of his family life in Brooklyn: formidable mother, overworked father, and his worldly older brother Stanley. Throw into the mix his widowed Aunt Blanche, her two young (but rapidly aging) daughters and you have a recipe for hilarity, served up Simon-style. This bittersweet memoir evocatively captures the life of a struggling Jewish household where, as his father states "if you didn't have a problem, you wouldn't be living here."

How did you like the event?

I was pleasantly surprised what a professional, high quality production this was. The play was long but I never once lost interest. In fact I wanted the story to keep going. I saw this play in NYC in the early 70's and was too young to appreciate theatre or this play. But I know this production was much better in a small local theatre from all aspects. I can't wait to come back and see other plays at this venue. Thank you for a PHENOMENAL show!!

How did you like the event?

Actors were very good. Play just wasn’t to my taste. I prefer musical or mystery. Once again the temperature was too cold.

How did you like the event?

Took my granddaughter again and I feel that there’s so much work involved on the stage and the theater had a lot of seats. I have a suggestion that maybe we can get some supporters in town to maybe encourage middle schoolers and a parent or high school and a parent to come and the seats would be paid for and then everybody would win we have toinspire kids in particular to come to live performances, especially the musical. If you’re interested, give me a call Nancy 8502

BRIGHTON BEACH was a very good show, with excellent actors in every position. Wish more people could have been made aware of just how good this show was. Great directing job Don Goodrum once again.

How did you like the event?

OMG. That show is so funny. I loved Eugene. I don't know how he managed to have the perfect teenage voice. Kate was also fantastic. She really got into her role. Her arguing with her sister was right on point. I could tell she was into the moment...like she really had a sister she was talking with about similar subjects. Everyone was great!! I could sit through it again it was so good!

How did you like the event?

I've always enjoy Neil Simon, and now I've learned that Brighton Beach Memoirs is the first of Neil Simon's semi-autobiographical trilogy (followed by Biloxi Blues, which I was familiar with from the movie, and Broadway Bound, which I have not seen). This is an excellent production of the play, and the cast is uniformly excellent in their parts. I highly recommend seeing it!

How did you like the event?

It was a truly enjoyable performance of Neil Simon's first in his semi-autobiographical trilogy. I would have to say that Eugene (Shep Harper), Kate (Jennifer King), and Stanley (John Stackpoole) were extraordinary with their respective characters.
