Based on the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899, Newsies tells the story of Jack Kelly - a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragtag band of teenage “newsies” who dream of a better life far from the hardships of the streets. When publishing titans raise the distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies his fellow newsies to fight for justice. 

 

From the theatre troupe that brought you Phantom of the Opera, Anastasia, and A Christmas Carol; Newsies will be another example of Renaissance Theatre’s passion for what they do. Their incredibly talented students will shine as they take you to the streets of New York! With non-stop energy, unforgettable songs like “Seize the Day” and “Santa Fe”, and thrilling choreography, Newsies is a high octane Broadway smash that’s perfect for the whole family.

 Before the show, I had never really liked the musical Newsies. I came in expecting to just grimace through it, but instead loved every second! The Bethel cast never disappoints and always has phenomenal performances.

 Best performance ever! All the actors were great. Loved the costumes and did they ever have that New York accent down perfectly!! I could relate to it personally as I am a former Union member and have lived thru several strikes.

The cast and crew put on a phenomenal performance that was so engaging that the entire audience was actually pulled into and became part of the overall experience.  My wife and I saw Newsies at TPAC before seeing it at The Dixie. We preferred the Bethel University performance at The Dixie. Because of the venue, we were much closer to the stage and felt a part of the show. The talent was impressive.
