Humorist Jean Shepherd’s memoir of growing up in the midwest in the 1940s follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas. Ralphie pleads his case before his mother, his teacher and even Santa Claus himself at Higbee’s Department Store. The consistent response: “You’ll shoot your eye out!”

 

All the elements from the beloved motion picture are here, including the family’s temperamental exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the boys’ experiment with a wet tongue on a cold lamppost; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin; Ralphie’s father winning a lamp shaped like a woman’s leg in a net stocking; Ralphie’s fantasy scenarios and more. 

 

COVID-19 Precautions

South Valley Civic Theatre (SVCT) is taking precautions against Covid-19. We take the health of our cast, staff and patrons very seriously. All involved must remain healthy for the show to go on.
 
Vaccinations are highly recommended but not required. However, the Playhouse and Limelight are public indoor spaces with patrons in close proximity to one another. SVCT  does not require, however we strongly encourage our patrons, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a mask inside the theater and theater lobby areas unless actively drinking or eating.
 

We count on our audience members to self-monitor. If you experience Covid-19 symptoms or receive a positive Covid-19 test, please alert our Box Office volunteers at [email protected] and/or call 408-842-7469 at least three (3) hours before curtain so we can exchange your tickets.

 

SVCT will review its Covid-19 Statement for each of its shows to align with the State of California and Santa Clara County mandates and recommendations.  Thank you for your help and consideration!

   Very dissatisfied with the play. The narrator was obnoxious and distracting from the other characters. Would have preferred a voice off stage narrating the story. Recently watched the movie on TV (never seen previously). It was far more enjoyable than your rendition of the story.

 Came from SJ in rain to see Jery Rojas & he absolutely did NOT disappoint . 4 friends who also happened to go & aren’t as biased said he delivered, carried the show & they were so impressed. Entire cast was amazing. Set was incredible & of all things, conecto find out Friday night set designer was none other than Andrew Cummings who first performed @ Lynhaven w/ his buddy, my now 32 yr old son, in SJ before moving to MH! Wild coincidence!

   I thought it was going to be more of a Christmas play for children. I thought it was very long and not as fun as I thought it was going to be. I always admire the actors and all the work that they put forth but for me, it just didn’t cut it this time

   I have been to 3 other Christmas plays here in the past & this is by far the best one. The narrator, adult Ralph, is amazing! The dad & mom were really great as well. They were by far our favorite actors in the play. The only one I would have recasted was Ralphie to match how great the rest of the cast was. He quite hard to understand & lacked the enthusiasm going on around him.

   This play was done so perfectly! The producer, directors, cast, EVERYONE did such an incredible job! They captured every moment from the movie! Absolutely well done! My family enjoyed it so much we will be coming back to watch again! Each scene was executed so beautifully! Absolutely wonderful to see! Great job! Thank you! AMAZING!
