Event Flyer

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a musical comedy with music and lyrics by William Finn, a book by Rachel Sheinkin, conceived by Rebecca Feldman with additional material by Jay Reiss.  The show centers on a fictional spelling bee set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle School.  Six quirky adolescents compete in the Bee, run by three equally quirky grown ups.

An unusual aspect of the show is that four real audience members are invited on stage to compete in the spelling bee alongside the six young characters.  Another amusing aspect of the show is that the official pronouncer provides ridiculous usage-in-a-sentence exapmles when asked to use words in a sentence.  Most performances are peppered with adult refernces and occasional profanity.

How did you like the event?

WOW! What a show! All of the actors were great in their parts. The ensemble singing was so strong there could have been an entire choir up there. Some of the best choreography I have seen on this stage, and the lighting was well done. I would call out individual performances, but there were so many excellent ones. I will say I think this is the first time I've seen Josiah Burton in a PLT production, and I was very impressed. What a great show!
