The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a musical comedy with music and lyrics by William Finn, a book by Rachel Sheinkin, conceived by Rebecca Feldman with additional material by Jay Reiss.  The show centers on a fictional spelling bee set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle School.  Six quirky adolescents compete in the Bee, run by three equally quirky grown ups.  

 

An unusual aspect of the show is that four real audience members are invited on stage to compete in the spelling bee alongside the six young characters.  Another amusing aspect of the show is that the official pronouncer provides ridiculous usage-in-a-sentence examples when asked to use words in a sentence.  Most shows are peppered with adult references and occasional profanity.

How did you like the event?

  Was Great!!! My only complaint is that the music was either too loud or the singers needed "mic'd" better. I hate to complain because I know how much work and sweat go into these shows but I couldn't understand the words of most of the singing because the music overshadowed. Other than that, we loved it and will be attending more performances. You all always do an excellent job!!!

How did you like the event?

     This was a great experience. The actors did a fantastic job and were amazing at drawing the audience into the story. It was an interactive night of fun and laughter. I left wanting to see it again.

   This kind of event is why I no longer get a season pass! It was not family entertainment! Vulgar dances, songs & language! I thought it was safe to go to a musical but however, I was very disappointed!
